Humane Canada™ is Canada's federation of SPCAs and humane societies. Our members serve animals in communities large and small, urban and rural, English and French, in every province and territory across Canada. We bring together those who work with and care for animals to promote respect and humane treatment toward all animals – in the home, on the farm, in the lab and in the wild.

The Toronto Humane Society believes that education is the first step to reducing pet overpopulation, improving animal health and preventing animal cruelty and neglect.

The CCAC works to ensure that animal-based science in Canada takes place only when necessary and that the animals in the studies receive optimal care according to high quality, research-informed standards.

The highest standards of animal ethics and care are valued and assured in all animal-based science conducted throughout Canada.

The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society is privileged to be Ontario’s animal welfare charity since 1873. In our role as a charity, we provide a variety of mission-based programs and resources focused on providing for animal welfare, including community-based sheltering, shelter health & animal wellness, high-volume spay/neuter services, animal rescue and relief, animal advocacy, Indigenous partnership programs, humane education and animal protection services.

Wishing Well Sanctuary is undergoing a strategic realignment in order to ensure that, going forward, we remain true to our mission, vision, and values. We will continue to ensure that our animal family receives excellent care and we will focus on our mission to promote mental health and well-being for children, youth, their families and caregivers; we will be extending sanctuary to those affected by trauma, addiction and other difficulties, by providing courses, seminars, and workshops.

Though we encourage visitors to come and experience the animals at the DSC, there are certain limitations in place at a sanctuary that do not exist at zoos. While a zoo has a direct link to the public, sanctuaries are open in a limited way and sometimes not at all. A zoo depends on visitors for funding, while sanctuaries are often working farms of their own. As well, as a sanctuary we are completely dependent on private donations from individual donors in order to continue operating. 

Cedar Row has been in existence since 1999 and is one of the oldest farm sanctuaries in Ontario. Siobhan and Peter Poole run the sanctuary with help from with their two children Cicada and Patrick as well as a group of dedicated volunteers. Hundreds of animals have been rescued over the years, each just as special of the other.
